Otago

Dunedin, and the surrounding area, is an epic place to surf! Beach breaks, point breaks, mellow loggy waves, heaving barrels and everything in between is what is on offer.

There are over 30 breaks in such a small area, which means there will definitely be something for everyone. There is always swell, predominantly from the south but it is always a treat when an East swell comes along to light the points up!

St Clair is the main town beach which can get crowded, you can check what it looks like here St Clair Surf Report Camera St Clair Surf Report Camera if you are looking to get away from the crowd, you wont need to drive far to find a peak for yourself.

You will need a wetsuit all year round. We will be lucky if the water temperature gets to 15 degrees in summer. Winter is very cold, about 8 degrees. Meaning you will need at least a 4/3 (a lot of people are going for a 5/4) booties, a hood and gloves if you can handle wearing them! At least when it is this cold it can help keep the crowds down.

A surf school operates in summer Esplanade Surf School Dunedin NZ check them out!

Tash Civil

Kia ora, my name is Tash. I actually grew up in the Far North but ended up moving down to Dunedin 20 years ago. The temperature change was a bit of a shock but the waves on offer down here are worth it. The surfing community is great and really supported the very few girls who were out in the line up all those years ago.

I love the lifestyle surfing has to offer and I have based a lot of my life decisions on what the surf is doing! I have travelled to different spots around the world, but always love coming home to Dunedin to surf the local. I like how surfing down here can be a little hardcore, whether its the freezing cold or the sea lions that patrol the line up.

I do a little bit of competitive surfing and love travelling around doing the South Island Circuit. Ultimately, I just want to surf and have an awesome time doing it, and by being the Dunedin rep, I am aiming to support the surfing wahine down here in any way that I can.
